Power Uprising

Power Uprising is a global movement that educates, empowers and excels people of color in marginalized communities through S.T.E.A.M. programs and partnerships. Our mission is to utilize the resources of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics to aid marginalized communities in combating systemic racism. Our Six Focus areas are Quality Education, Gender Equality, Social & Economic Justice, Human Rights, Financial Literacy, and Wellness.

Power Moves in Business & Entrepreneurship

"Power Moves in Business and Entrepreneurship" is a 4-week business marketing course, and initiative under Power Uprising, that educates, empowers, and excels teenagers in marginalized communities to become the change that they seek by creating the solution to a problem in their environment. Each group presents their solution as a S.T.E.A.M. based business pitch, in a "Shark Tank" TV show style. Five highly-acclaimed judges from various career backgrounds critique their presentation.

In the transformative college-accelerated course, “Power Moves in Business and Entrepreneurship,” high school students learn about critical thinking, problem solving, research, brand messaging, graphic design, web app development, target audience, marketing, business models, finance, teamwork, career roles, and public speaking. They also analyze Shark Tank business pitches to prepare for the judges, and create their own songs for their introductions. All aspects of S.T.E.A.M. are applied throughout the curriculum.

Personal

As a North St. Louis native, Daya knows what it’s like to come from a marginalized community and be categorized. She is a prime example that with family, mentors, a village of support, a faith-based foundation, and access to resources and quality education, anything is possible.

Daya gained knowledge of God, her true history, love for her roots and culture, systemic racism, activism, and the importance of social and economic justice from her parents. She quickly learned that her environment did not define her worth. Being the middle child and only girl with two brothers growing up, Daya has cultivated a mix of servant leadership, compassion, sincerity, assertiveness and grit.

Daya is a force to be reckoned with when doing God’s work. She is now on a mission to give back to her hometown community and other marginalized communities worldwide.
